Gary's Historical Ocoee River 1977 Video DVD - Film Festival WINNER
Chosen as the Best Amateur Documentary by the 2024 National Paddling Film Festival! I filmed this footage in 1977 on Kodak Super 8mm film and edited it into its current format a few years ago. 1977 was the first year since 1914 that the Ocoee River had water flowing down its River bed full time because prior to that year, the water was diverted by a stick dam into a wooden flume for power generation. This is my historical look at how Whitewater Recreation began on the Middle Ocoee River in Southeast Tennessee in 1977. I also gave names to half of the Rapids that year plus the Doldrums. I also describe the various whitewater craft in use that year along with details of the history of outfitting. Run time is approximately 20 minutes. Hope you enjoy.
